RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES GAIN ADVOCACY

Government at all levels have been called upon to respect the rights of persons with disabilities as enshrined in the law.

This was the crux of the discussion at a Press Conference organized by a Non- Governmental Organization, Faecare Foundation, on the Disability Rights Initiative Project, structured to advance the rights of persons with disabilities in Rivers State.

Executive Director of Faecare Foundation, Ndifreke Andrew-Essien maintained that an all-inclusive society would give rise to more development as lots of talents would be discovered.

She also stressed the need for persons with disabilities to access public structures as enshrined in the law.

On his part, Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with disabilities, Rivers State Chapter, Mr. Kie Obomanu while urging the disability community to work in unity, called for concerted efforts by the Government in tackling issues of accessibility in public domain by persons with disabilities.

Representative of the National Orientation Argency, NOA; Rivers State, Mr. Ellis Nria-Dappa expressed NOA’s preparedness for more sensitization on the rights of persons with disabilities.

The International Federation of Female Lawyers, FIDA and the Rivers State Network of NGOs, RINGOS; were also in attendance and lent their voices in support of the rights of persons with disabilities.
